As a Florida girl, I love to stitch coastal canvases. There’s something really special about stitching a reflection of your surroundings, whether it’s a blue and white shell motif, seabirds, or ocean landscapes, it connects my hobby to my home. By the beach is one of my favorite places to stitch! Plus, working with similar coastal color palettes means I can often shop my own thread stash, which is always a bonus!

Back to what you came for– here are a few of my favorite coastal canvases that I’ve either stitched or have on my needlepoint wishlist:

Three Pelicans Ornament by Janice Holden Designs

I love the colors in this canvas! This is in my current stash of WIPS (works in progress). It’s an 18-mesh round that I’m planning to turn into an ornament. Pelicans are such a South Florida staple!

Clam Shell Heart by The Salty Stitcher

This was one of my favorite coastal-themed stitches. It’s 18-mesh, and I stitched it in vineyard silk. I love the detail in the colors and shading, and I can’t wait to frame it!

Octopus by August Design Works:

I am absolutely in love with this Octopus canvas! The colors are so vibrant, and it’s only 3.25” x 4.25” so it should be a quick stitch. I can see this framed or as an ornament or door hanger with some fun backing fabric and cording!

Coastal Coaster by Coast to Coast & Penny Linn

I stitched and self-finished this 18-mesh coaster earlier this summer, and I love displaying it in acrylic. It was a fun stitch and great for beginners with only a few colors. Coast to Coast and Penny Linn sell the same design in a key fob and a few other canvas sizes as well!

Shimmering Scallop Shell by Morgan Julia Designs

This has been on my wishlist for a while! I would love to stitch it with some sparkly silk-lamé or sparkly Stardust Silk & Ivory. With this being a 4”x4” design, I think you could make a coaster set and even color swap if you wanted four different color coasters.

Mahi-Mahi Fish Series by Atlantic Blue Canvas

I stitched this mahi canvas, and am planning to turn it into a pillow. Also on my wishlist are the other fish in this series: Marlin, Lionfish, and Tuna! I used a bargello wave stitch for the background, and had fun picking out vibrant colors to bring this design to life!

Customizable Coastal Travel Round by Atlantic Blue Canvas

Atlantic Blue Canvas’s Custom Travel rounds are great if you want a canvas customized for your favorite sports! I love this Coastal one, but my mom and aunt have stitched other versions of this with our hometown beach names.
